You think of what you did tonight while lying down on the cardboard in the corner of the room. It has been some wild evening, but the adrenaline rush has slowly been replaced by exhaustion and all you want now is get the best sleep you can. The view all around is not very refreshing, injection needles, empty cans of smash, rotting porno magazines and remains of small campfires litter the concrete floor. Trapped between the walls covered with gang tags and obscene inscriptions, you decide not to look at the spiderwebs and the growing fungus on the ceiling. Outside, the clouds hang pretty low, and you hope it's just an electric storm because if it starts to rain the rats will come back inside... Then you see her...You blink with your eyes and she's gone. But you're positively sure you saw her... jumping over the alley, holding something like an enormous black handgun and a suitcase. And you remember what happened to your gang buddy Spud when he and you where shooting some empty beercans. He would still be joking at your side if the gun hadn't exploded in his hands. This cheap shit is pure crap, but you can't afford any better. In fact you can barely keep yourself alive. You live like a vagrant in a ruined house, you eat when you can steal or what you find in the thrashbins. You think you've had enough of this crap. You've had enough watching your stuff all day and tying it to your body at night so nobody would steal it. You've had enough of being treated without respect, you've had enough eating roasted rat, you've had enough of this life even a cockroach doesn't deserve and that's why you want to get out. So you grab your Polymer One-Shot handcannon and your six-pack of smash and decide get on the streets and find yourself a job... like that girl you saw... Yes you want to be a cyberpunk, a wealthy, respected motherfucker. Yeah... You stand up and leave... but you know it's not gonna be easy because dirt sticks to the skin. |

A big tanx to Gary Astleford, my major inspiration through his article "Gangs in cyberpunk 2020". |
